Health Room

The function of the School Health Assistant is to provide basic first aid associated with treating sick or injured students. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: administers first aid for minor cuts and injuries and provides care for ill students (not chronic conditions); dispenses medication to students; conducts vision/hearing screenings; conducts follow-up on health screenings and initiates referrals to Learning community-based RN as necessary; assists with blood sugar monitoring (diabetes)/inhalers (asthma)/Epi-pen administration (allergies); inspects for head lice, administers CPR, recognizes and reports child abuse/neglect; refers families in need of food, clothing, or medical assistance to available resources in the community and conducts follow-ups with the families.
